Steve Fitzpatrick is a fifth generation Montanan. Steve graduated from Montana State University in 2001 with a degree in Biological Sciences and from the Arizona State University College of Law in 2004.
Since 2005, Steve has worked as an attorney in private practice representing individuals and small businesses across Montana.
In 2010, after becoming concerned about the direction of Montana, Steve decided to run for the Montana House of Representatives. Steve was elected to serve in the Montana House of Representatives in 2010, 2012, and 2014.
In 2016, Steve was elected to serve in the Montana Senate. In the Senate, Steve served two sessions as both Senate Majority Whip and Chairman of the Senate Business and Labor Committee.
In 2023, Steve was elected to serve as Senate Majority Leader.
Due to term limits, Steve ran for election to the Montana House of Representatives in 2024. In 2025, Steve was elected to serve as House Majority Leader.
Steve is one of only three people in the entire history of the State of Montana to serve as Majority Leaders in both the Montana House of Representatives and Montana Senate.
Steve is a fiscal conservative who works tirelessly to stop wasteful and unnecessary spending. He has been named the Most Valuable Policymaker by the Montana Chamber of Commerce two times. He has received the Award for Conservative Excellence from the American Conservative Union/CPAC four times.
Steve is married to Julia Fitzpatrick, a Great Falls native. The Fitzpatricks have three daughters and are active members of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Great Falls.
Steve is a board member of the Cascade County Sheriff’s Legacy Foundation. The Foundation works to raise funds to supply equipment, training, and other essentials not covered by the annual budget for the Cascade County Sheriff's Office.
Steve has volunteered as a coach for youth soccer and basketball. In the summer, you can find him hiking in Glacier Park or working in his garden.
